This Is What I Keep Seeing

Authors with genuinely excellent books, sitting invisible while lesser works dominate the bestseller lists.

You poured years into writing a book you are proud of. You published it. The early response was encouraging. A few strong reviews. Maybe a trade publication noticed. Maybe you won an award. Readers who find your book genuinely love it.

But then nothing happens.

Your Amazon ranking sits in the millions. Your book has 8 ratings after three years. Your genre is booming, but your sales are flat. Your competitors, some of whom you know are not writing at your level, have thousands of reviews while you have a handful. You start wondering if your book just was not good enough.

It was good enough. It is good enough. The readers who would love your book simply do not know it exists. That is not a quality problem. That is a visibility problem. And visibility problems have solutions.

The Algorithm Forgot You

Amazon's algorithm rewards momentum. Books that sell get shown to more people, which drives more sales, which drives more visibility. Books that do not hit that initial velocity threshold get buried. A BSR of 3 million means Amazon has essentially stopped showing your book to anyone. That does not mean your book failed. It means the algorithm never gave it a fair chance. And without intervention, it never will.

Your Genre Changed Around You

Maybe you published a hockey romance before BookTok made hockey romance explode. Maybe you wrote a WWII novel from a perspective nobody else was covering, but you launched without the marketing push to match. Maybe your category is now dominated by authors pricing at $0.99 while your Kindle edition sits at $12.99. The genre shifted. Your positioning did not shift with it. The readers who would love your book are buying from authors who showed up where they were looking.

Your Readers Love You. They Just Cannot Find You.

You have a 4.7 rating. Every review is passionate and detailed. Readers say "I could not put it down" and "this book needs to be a program." But you have 15 ratings instead of 1,500. One reader wrote six paragraphs about how much your book meant to her. Another said she read it in 48 hours. The product works. The pipeline to the product does not exist yet. And that is exactly what I build.

Katherine Rose Lynn

Book Marketing Specialist

I am a book marketing specialist who works with authors whose writing quality outpaces their commercial visibility. That sentence sounds simple, but the work behind it is not.

Before I ever recommend a strategy, I spend significant time analyzing each author's specific situation. I look at Amazon rankings, category positioning, keyword visibility, pricing dynamics, review sentiment, competitive landscape, format availability, and audience pathways. I read the reviews. I study the competitors. I map the communities where readers of that genre actually discover books.

By the time I reach out to an author or present a strategy, I already understand their market position better than most people in their professional orbit.

I did not start this work because I love marketing. I started because I kept finding books that were genuinely excellent, sitting at BSR rankings in the millions with a handful of ratings. The gap between quality and visibility bothered me. It still does.

My approach is honest, direct, and respectful. I will tell you what I observe, backed by data. I will not flatter you with vague compliments or pressure you with manufactured urgency. If your book has a pricing problem, I will say so. If your categories are wrong, I will show you. If your competitor is outperforming you because of strategy rather than quality, I will explain exactly how.

I work across genres: historical fiction, mystery, romance, young adult, children's picture books, poetry, nonfiction, memoir, and more. Every genre has its own dynamics, its own reader behavior, its own discovery ecosystem. I learn each one deeply before making recommendations within it.

Every Good Book Deserves a Strategy as Thoughtful as the Writing Itself

The book market is noisier than ever. Over 4 million books are published every year. The authors who succeed are not always the best writers. They are the ones whose work is findable, positioned correctly, and presented to the right readers at the right time.

Marketing cannot fix a bad book. It cannot create demand where none exists. It cannot guarantee bestseller status. What it can do is ensure that a good book with an identifiable audience is positioned, priced, categorized, and presented in a way that gives it the best possible chance of reaching that audience.

That is what I promise, and that is what I deliver.

"I do not send the same email to every author. I do not offer the same strategy to every book. I do the work of understanding your specific situation before I say a single word about what you should do next."
01

Research First, Always

I never propose a strategy without deep analysis of your market position, competitive landscape, and reader behavior. Every recommendation is grounded in verifiable data, not assumptions.

02

Problems First, Not Services

I do not open conversations by listing what I offer. I open by showing you what I have discovered about your market position. Trust is built through demonstrated expertise, not sales tactics.

03

Industry Language, Not Jargon

I talk about series read-through funnel design, comp author audience migration, algorithmic repositioning, and cross-community audience building. These are the real strategic concepts that drive book sales.

04

Your Book, Your Strategy

A WWII historical fiction novelist with 15 ratings needs a fundamentally different approach than a YA hockey romance author with 145. A children's picture book about wind requires different thinking than a workplace conflict guide endorsed by Microsoft. Every strategy is built from scratch.

05

Honest About Limitations

I will never promise you a bestseller. I will never invent statistics. I will never pretend a strategy is working when it is not. You get the truth, delivered with respect, backed by data.

What Happens When You Send Me Your Book

Most authors who reach out to me have the same experience. They have been contacted by dozens of generic book marketers promising to "boost visibility" and "grow their platform." The emails all sound the same. The promises are vague. Nothing feels specific to their book.

Working with me feels different from the first interaction. Here is why.

1

You send me your Amazon link

That is all I need to start. No lengthy questionnaire. No sales call. Just your book's Amazon URL.

2

I do the research most marketers skip

I analyze your BSR, categories, keywords, pricing, reviews, competitors, and audience pathways. This takes real time and genuine attention.

3

I send you what I found

Not a sales pitch. Not a template. A specific, data-backed analysis of your book's market position and the three biggest problems I identified.

4

You decide if it resonates

If my analysis matches what you have been experiencing, we talk about next steps. If it does not, you still walk away with valuable insights about your market position. No pressure either way.

5

We build your strategy together

A custom plan addressing your specific problems with specific solutions. Implementation support available at whatever level you need.

Problems Per Book

Services Built Around Your Specific Situation

I do not sell packages. I sell clarity. I figure out exactly what is standing between your book and its readers, and then I build the strategy to remove those barriers.

Every service begins with research. I never recommend a tactic without first understanding your book's unique market position, competitive dynamics, and reader behavior patterns. What follows are the areas where I most commonly help authors, but your engagement will be shaped by what your book actually needs, not by a predetermined menu.

SERVICE 01

Author Visibility Audit

The Starting Point

A comprehensive analysis of your book's current market position. This is not a surface-level glance at your Amazon page. It is a deep dive into everything that affects your discoverability.

  • Amazon BSR analysis and trend assessment
  • Category ranking evaluation across all subcategories
  • Keyword visibility and search gap analysis
  • Pricing competitiveness vs. direct competitors
  • Review sentiment analysis and reader language mapping
  • Format availability assessment (Kindle, audio, print)
  • Competitive landscape report with named comparisons
  • Three specific problem identifications with evidence
  • Actionable recommendations for each problem
Most Popular
SERVICE 02

Book Launch Strategy

Pre-Launch to 90 Days Post-Launch

The first 30 to 90 days after publication determine whether Amazon's algorithm works for you or forgets you. This service ensures you maximize that critical window.

  • Pre-launch timeline and milestone planning
  • ARC (Advance Review Copy) campaign design
  • Amazon category and keyword optimization
  • Launch-day pricing strategy
  • Email list activation sequence
  • Social media launch content calendar
  • 90-day post-launch visibility roadmap
  • Review velocity monitoring and adjustment
SERVICE 03

Launch Recovery

Books That Missed Their Window

A quiet launch does not have to mean a quiet life for your book. Many of the most successful backlist books found their audience months or years after publication through strategic repositioning.

  • Algorithmic repositioning strategy
  • Promotional pricing calendar design
  • Targeted advertising plan
  • Review acceleration through ethical ARC outreach
  • Audience re-engagement tactics
  • Category and keyword refresh
SERVICE 04

Backlist Revitalization

Strong Books with Stagnant Sales

Your book has strong reviews and genuine reader enthusiasm but declining discoverability. Particularly effective for books published before a genre boom that never got repositioned.

  • Complete category and keyword refresh
  • Pricing repositioning for genre competitiveness
  • Format expansion recommendations
  • Community outreach plan for relevant reader groups
  • BookTok/Bookstagram visibility strategy
  • Cross-promotion with newer titles if applicable
SERVICE 05

Series Read-Through Funnel

Multi-Book Series Authors

In series genres like mystery, romance, and fantasy, the revenue model depends on readers consuming the full series. Three books is the magic number for this strategy to work.

  • Entry-point pricing strategy (Book 1 at $0.99 or free)
  • Series-specific advertising plan
  • Kindle Unlimited enrollment analysis
  • Read-through rate optimization
  • Cross-book promotion tactics
  • Series page and branding optimization
High Impact
SERVICE 06

Amazon Optimization

Any Author Selling on Amazon

Often the single highest-impact, lowest-cost change an author can make. Most listings have significant optimization gaps that suppress discoverability.

  • Category research and strategic selection
  • Backend keyword optimization
  • Book description rewriting for conversion
  • A+ Content strategy where applicable
  • Pricing analysis and recommendations
SERVICE 07

Comp Author Audience Strategy

Authors With Clear Read-Alikes

If your reviewer compares you to Paula Munier, every one of Munier's readers is a potential reader for you. This service systematically connects you to those readers.

  • Comp author identification and validation
  • Strategic positioning in "also bought" suggestions
  • Targeted advertising using comp author keywords
  • Community engagement in comp author reader spaces
SERVICE 08

Platform Building

Authors With No Online Presence

Many authors I work with have no visible platform beyond their Amazon listing. This service builds the infrastructure that supports ongoing sales and reader engagement.

  • Newsletter launch and growth strategy
  • Social media positioning (BookTok, Bookstagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Podcast guest placement strategy
  • Content calendar development
  • Author website recommendations
SERVICE 09

Cross-Community Audience Building

Authors With Multi-Community Appeal

For authors whose work and identity span multiple communities. Your intersectional identity is a marketing asset, not a complication.

  • Identification of all relevant audience communities
  • Tailored messaging for each community
  • Coordinated multi-channel outreach
  • Advocacy and cultural organization partnerships
SERVICE 10

Pricing & Format Strategy

Authors Priced Out of Their Genre

If your Kindle book is $12.99 and your top 20 competitors are $0.99 to $3.99, you are not competing. You are invisible. This service fixes that.

  • Genre-specific pricing analysis
  • Promotional pricing calendar design
  • Kindle Unlimited enrollment analysis
  • Audiobook production consulting
  • Paperback/hardcover distribution strategy

From Research to Results

Every engagement begins with understanding. I do not prescribe solutions before I have diagnosed the problem. Here is exactly what working with me looks like.

STEP 01

Deep Research

Before any conversation about strategy, I conduct a thorough analysis of your book's current position. This is not a surface-level glance. I examine:

  • Amazon BSR and what it tells us about your sales velocity
  • Category rankings and whether they are helping or actively hurting you
  • Keyword visibility for the searches your readers are actually making
  • Pricing relative to every direct competitor on your "also bought" shelf
  • Review sentiment patterns, reader language, and what your audience is really saying
  • Format availability and whether missing formats are costing you entire reader segments
  • Competitive landscape: who is outperforming you, what they are doing, and where the gap is
  • Audience communities that exist for your book type but are not connected to you

This research phase is where most of the value lives. The answers are in the data. I just have to find them.

STEP 02

Problem Identification

Based on the research, I identify three specific, verifiable problems preventing your book from reaching its natural audience. These are never generic observations. They are precise, data-backed findings.

Real examples from my analyses: "Your Kindle price is $12.99 in a category where the top 20 competitors average $3.49." "Your book is categorized under Children's Scary Stories when it is actually a lyrical, reassuring bedtime book." "Your reviewer compared you to Paula Munier. None of Munier's 50,000+ readers are finding your book."

STEP 03

Custom Strategy Development

I build a strategy addressing each identified problem with specific, actionable solutions. Every recommendation includes three things:

  • The reasoning behind it (why this matters for your specific situation)
  • The expected impact (what this change should accomplish)
  • The exact steps required to implement it (in what order, with what resources)

No vague advice. No "you should be on social media more." Concrete, sequenced, measurable action items built for your book, your genre, and your audience.

STEP 04

Implementation Support

Depending on the engagement, I either hand off the strategy for you to implement independently, or I work alongside you to execute. Implementation can include:

  • Writing optimized book descriptions that convert browsers to buyers
  • Researching and selecting optimal Amazon categories and keywords
  • Designing promotional pricing calendars aligned with genre norms
  • Setting up ARC campaigns for review acceleration
  • Developing content strategies for BookTok, Bookstagram, or other platforms
  • Building advertising plans with specific targeting recommendations
  • Identifying and connecting with relevant reader communities
STEP 05

Measurement & Adjustment

Marketing is not a one-time event. I track results, analyze what is working, and adjust the strategy based on real performance data:

  • BSR movement over time (are we climbing?)
  • Review velocity (how quickly are new reviews appearing?)
  • Category rank changes (are we becoming more visible?)
  • Advertising ROI (is the spend generating returns?)
  • Email list and social media growth metrics
  • Read-through rates for series authors

What works gets expanded. What does not work gets adjusted or replaced. The strategy evolves as the data comes in. You are never locked into a plan that is not performing.

Is This Right for You?

I want to be upfront about who benefits most from working with me, and who might be better served elsewhere. Honesty starts before we ever work together.

We are a great fit if you...
  • Have at least one published book (self-published, hybrid, or traditionally published)
  • Have received positive reader feedback: strong ratings, detailed reviews, trade coverage, or awards
  • Are serious about building a sustainable author career, not looking for a magic button
  • Are open to honest, data-driven feedback about your market position, even when it is uncomfortable
  • Understand that marketing is an investment in your work, not an expense to be avoided
  • Write in any genre (I work across all categories and treat each with equal rigor)
  • Are willing to implement changes based on what the data shows
I am probably not the right fit if you...
  • Want guaranteed bestseller status or specific sales numbers promised upfront
  • Are looking for someone to "make you go viral" without strategic foundation
  • Are not willing to adjust pricing, categories, or positioning based on market data
  • Want a generic marketing package that looks the same for every author
  • Have not yet finished writing your book (I work with published books, not manuscripts)
  • Expect results without any personal involvement in the process

Author Categories I Specialize In

🌱

Small Authors

One to two published books. Single-digit or low double-digit ratings. BSR in the millions. Your book converts the readers who find it. You need foundational strategy to be discovered by more of them. This is where most of my clients start.

🌿

Mid-Level Authors

Two to ten books. Some traction (50 to 500 ratings). Possibly award-winning or trade-reviewed. Growth has plateaued and you cannot figure out why. You need strategic optimization and audience expansion to break through.

🌳

Traditionally Published

Your publisher handles distribution but their marketing attention has moved to the next season's titles. You need supplemental, author-driven strategies that work alongside what your publisher provides without stepping on toes.

I Learn Your Genre Before I Touch Your Marketing

Every genre has its own reader behavior, pricing norms, discovery ecosystem, and community dynamics. A strategy that works for WWII fiction will fail for YA hockey romance. I study each one deeply.

Historical Fiction

Voracious, series-oriented, price-sensitive readers. Discovery happens through Goodreads lists, Facebook groups, and BookTok.

Pricing norm: $0.99 to $4.99 for discoverability
High Competition

Mystery & Thriller

Series-loyal with high read-through rates and strong audiobook consumption. BookBub, Amazon ads, and mystery Facebook groups drive discovery.

Book 1 free or $0.99, sequels $3.99 to $5.99
Series-Driven

Romance

Fastest consumption rate of any genre. Heavily KU-driven and trope-aware. BookTok, Bookstagram, and romance newsletters are essential.

Trope stacking and subgenre specificity are key
Trope-Aware

Young Adult

Trope-driven discovery with massive BookTok presence. SLJ, Junior Library Guild, and teacher networks matter for credibility.

Crossover adult readership is significant
BookTok Driven

Children's Picture Books

Parents and educators are the buyers. Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube read-alouds, and Waldorf/Montessori communities drive discovery.

Illustration quality is a primary discovery driver
Visual Discovery

Poetry

Community-driven and identity-aligned. Literary journals, Instagram, LGBTQ+ reading communities, and literary festivals are the channels.

Award credentials carry significant weight
Community-Driven

Business & Nonfiction

Problem-solution oriented with authority-driven purchasing. LinkedIn, podcasts, conferences, and corporate training departments are key.

Bulk/corporate sales can be a major revenue channel
Authority-Based

Memoir & Literary Fiction

Word-of-mouth driven and book club friendly. Literary podcasts, indie bookstores, Goodreads groups, and reading festivals drive discovery.

Review quality matters more than review quantity
Word of Mouth

What My Research Looks Like in Practice

Each example below is based on real, publicly available Amazon data. This is the depth of analysis every author I work with receives.

Case Study 01

  • Award credentials (Spur Awards, Will Rogers Medallions, WWA presidency) invisible to consumer readers. No marketing funnel converting prestige into awareness.
  • Two-book Western series with five children's titles reaching an entirely different audience. Zero cross-catalog strategy connecting them.
Strategic Direction

Format expansion to accessible price points, credential-driven repositioning targeting Western fiction reader communities, backlist cross-pollination strategy connecting adult and children's audiences.

Case Study 02

The WWII Novel Nobody Else Is Writing

  • No audiobook in an audiobook-hungry genre. Readers asking for a sequel with no email list, social media, or system to reach them when it arrives.

Why Authors Choose to Work With Me

Most book marketers send the same generic email to hundreds of authors. Here is how I am different.

01

I Research Before I Pitch

By the time I contact an author, I have already analyzed their BSR, category position, pricing, review patterns, competitive landscape, and audience pathways. I know their market position better than most people in their professional orbit. Authors can tell the difference immediately.

02

I Lead With Problems, Not Services

I do not open conversations by listing packages. I open by showing authors what I discovered about their specific market position. The problems are specific, verifiable, and grounded in real data. This builds trust through demonstrated expertise, not sales tactics.

03

I Speak the Language of the Market

Series read-through funnels. Comp author audience migration. Algorithmic repositioning. Cross-community audience building. Entry-point pricing strategy. These are the real strategic concepts that drive book sales. Not vague phrases like "boost your visibility."

04

Every Genre Gets Equal Rigor

A children's picture book about wind deserves the same analytical depth as a WWII historical novel about Romani resistance. A self-published time-travel romance gets the same strategic thinking as a traditionally published YA from Abrams. The market dynamics differ. The rigor does not.

05

I Am Honest About What Marketing Can Do

Marketing cannot fix a bad book. It cannot create demand where none exists. It cannot guarantee bestseller status. What it can do is ensure a good book with an identifiable audience is positioned, priced, categorized, and presented to give it the best possible chance. That is my promise.

06

I Read Your Reviews Like a Strategist

Your reviews are not just social proof. They are market research. When a reader says "this needs to be a program," she is telling you to create a workbook. When a reviewer names a comp author, he is identifying your target audience. When multiple readers mention meeting you at events, they are revealing your acquisition channel. I find these signals and build from them.

What Generic Book Marketing Sounds Like vs. What I Actually Say

The left side is what most book marketers send. The right side is what I send. The difference is research.

What Generic Marketers Say
"Your book has a lot of potential! I can help you increase your visibility and grow your audience."
What I Actually Say
"Your 4.6 rating with only 8 reviews after 4.5 years suggests your readers love the writing but cannot find you. At $51.85 hardcover-only with no Kindle edition, you are priced out of a genre where readers expect to pay $4.99 to $14.99. Your Spur Award credentials and WWA presidency are powerful social proof that no potential reader ever sees."
What Generic Marketers Say
"I help authors with book marketing and promotion. Would you like to schedule a call?"
What I Actually Say
"Your Kindle price is $12.99 in a category where The Keeper of Lost Daughters has 3,426 ratings at $0.99 and The Thirteenth Child has 2,375 ratings at $0.99. Every reviewer of your book specifically calls out the Romani perspective as the reason they were drawn to it, but that differentiator is not positioned in your keywords, categories, or description. The readers who would value this book the most have no way to find it."
What Generic Marketers Say
"Your book is great! Let me help you reach more readers with my proven marketing system."
What I Actually Say
"You published a YA hockey romance in 2019 before the genre exploded. Since then, Kenna King's Hawkeyes series has accumulated 3,000 to 7,000 ratings per book across 9+ titles. Your book hits every trope BookTok obsesses over: girl on boys team, teammates-to-lovers, he-falls-first. A reader posted a new 5-star review in March 2025. The audience has grown enormously since you published. They just do not know you exist."

Questions You Might Have

I believe in transparency. Here are honest answers to the questions authors ask most often.

Most book marketing services sell packages: a social media bundle, an advertising template, a generic description rewrite. Those can be useful, but they skip the most important step: understanding your specific situation. I start with deep, data-driven research into your book's market position, competitive landscape, pricing, categories, reviews, and audience pathways. Every recommendation is built on what that research reveals, not on a template I apply to every author. By the time we talk about strategy, I already know your market better than you might expect.
I work across genres including historical fiction, mystery and thriller, romance, young adult, children's picture books, poetry, business nonfiction, memoir, and literary fiction. Every genre has its own reader behavior, pricing norms, and discovery ecosystem. I study each one deeply before making recommendations. A children's picture book gets the same analytical rigor as a workplace conflict guide. I do not apply the same strategy across different genres because that would be malpractice.
Both, and the strategies differ. Self-published authors have full control over pricing, categories, keywords, and promotional tactics, which means we can move quickly on implementation. Traditionally published authors may have less control over those elements but can still benefit enormously from author-driven strategies like platform building, community engagement, BookTok/Bookstagram visibility, and supplemental promotional efforts. I understand the boundaries of both models and I work within them respectfully. I will never suggest something that would conflict with your publishing agreement.
Pricing depends on the scope of the engagement. A standalone Author Visibility Audit is priced differently than a full launch strategy with ongoing implementation support. Rather than publishing fixed prices that might not reflect your specific needs, I prefer to discuss pricing after an initial conversation about your situation and goals. The first step costs you nothing: send me your book's Amazon link and I will take a genuine first look at your market position before we discuss anything financial.
No, and I would be suspicious of anyone who does. No honest marketer can guarantee specific sales outcomes because too many variables are outside anyone's control: reader taste, market timing, algorithm changes, competitive moves. What I guarantee is that my research will be thorough, my analysis will be honest, and my recommendations will be specific, actionable, and grounded in real market data. I will tell you what I observe, what I think it means, and what I believe will improve your book's discoverability. The rest depends on the quality of the book, the size of the audience, and the consistency of implementation.
Some changes produce immediate impact. Fixing a miscategorized book or adjusting a price that is dramatically out of range can show BSR movement within days. Other strategies, like building a newsletter, establishing BookTok presence, or growing an audience through content, are medium-term plays that compound over weeks and months. I will always be clear about which strategies are quick wins and which require patience. You will never be surprised by the timeline.
This is more common than people realize, and it is not the end of the road. I recently analyzed an author whose book was only available as a $71 used copy because his publisher appears dormant. If your publisher is inactive, the first question is whether you can revert your publishing rights. If you can, your book can be republished independently through KDP and IngramSpark at accessible prices and in modern formats. I can guide you through that process and build the marketing strategy for the relaunch.
No. Many authors I work with have no online presence beyond their Amazon listing. Building that infrastructure can be part of our work together if it makes strategic sense for your situation. But I will not push you to create a TikTok account if your readers are not on TikTok. Platform recommendations are always based on where your specific readers actually discover books, not on what is trendy.
That usually means the strategy was not tailored to your specific book, genre, and audience. Generic approaches fail because they treat every book the same way. A WWII historical novel about Romani resistance requires completely different tactics than a YA hockey romance. My approach starts with understanding what makes your book unique, who your specific readers are, and which specific barriers are preventing discovery. Different diagnosis. Different treatment. Different results.
Absolutely. Pre-launch is actually the ideal time to work together. Building the right strategy before publication means you can maximize the critical first 90 days, which is dramatically more effective than trying to recover momentum after a quiet launch. I can help with pre-launch planning, ARC strategy, category selection, pricing, book description optimization, and building your complete launch roadmap.
